This sermon was preached on the Sunday preceding Ascension Day (Thursday – May 30th). It uses the direct words from each biblical author “as is”. Did the gospel writers know that Jesus ascended? Well of course they did, but if you use ONLY their words in the scriptures, what did each actually record with their words about the ascension?
I show my preference here for shorter end of Mark, or rather, my discomfort with the longer ending of Mark’s Gospel. Those final verses seem to be out of character with the rest of that Gospel, also many of the Greek copies do NOT have the “longer ending”, which asks then, was that added on and not what Mark originally wrote?
Thanks to the four “modern gospeleers” who read each part.
