Black History Month

February marks Black History Month in Canada and the United States. The month gives us a time to celebrate and honour the achievements and contributions to our countries and communities from those of African descent. In an effort to reflect what is happening in our neighbourhoods, Trinity and Redeemer will use our outdoor signs during this month for partial quotations from African Americans and African Canadians (we only have so much space!).

The fuller quotation are in our Sunday morning bulletins and listed below:

  • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
  • Maya Angelou: “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud … Life loves the liver of it.”
  • Toni Morrison “Make a difference about something other than yourselves.”
  • Rosemary Brown (Canadian) “Until all of us have made it, none of us have made it.”
